I had originally planned to do a presentation at Esozone which was largely the product of my several years work in the physical yoga of the Hyatt Method. I have recently decided that this is a flawed way of introducing the material. There is nothing here that cannot be learned well between now and October. The participants in my Esozone workshop will get much more out of a presentation of any kind if they have engaged in the detensing movements in advance. Further, neophytes will have a place to refer to after being introduced to key concepts. Without any further explanation, I would like to walk practitioners through the basic detensing exercises of the Hyatt method.

Announcing EsoZone Ungallery
July 23, 2009 | No comments
In addition to the “unconference,” EsoZone will also host an “ungallery” – you will be free to bring and display your art or setup installations, at Watershed for EsoZone weekend.
Guidelines:
Gallery setup time will be from Friday 10/9/09 between 12pm and 6pm. Additional art can be added over the course of the event, but space will be used on a first come, first served basis.
Be courteous with your space usage – don’t try to monopolize the space, and ask your fellow artists before moving their work. Be open to moving your work to improve the overall presentation.
Our biggest concern is fire proofing. Please contact us if you are unsure if your artwork poses a fire hazard. Do not block exits.
Neither EsoZone or Watershed PDX is responsible for lost or damaged art works.
For questions about fire proofing, logistics for installation art, or other concerns please contact Jillian Schadenfreude at jillian @ esozone.com
Announcing: Ignite EsoZone

Update: We’re extending the deadline to October 4th!
What is Ignite?
If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers.
Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Since then 100s of 5 minute talks have been given across the world. There are thriving Ignite communities in Seattle, Portland, Paris, and NYC.
We’re pleased to announce that EsoZone will be hosting a one hour Ignite during EsoZone on Saturday afternoon, October 10th.
Of course, there’s a twist.
Instead of 20 slides, at EsoZone Ignite speakers will use 5 props. The time will still be exactly 5 minutes. Speakers must incorporate all 5 props, and must speak for exactly 5 minutes.
Want to do it? Send a proposal to klint @ renegadefuturist dot com. Up to 10 talks will be selected by a panel. The deadline is September 15th, 2009.
Be sure to check out the next Ignite Portland this Thursday if you’re in town to see how the whole thing works, or check the Ignite web site for a schedule of Ignites in other cities.
You might also want to check out the BIL Speaker Guidelines for some general ideas for how to give a good talk.
(Please note that there is no relation between Ignite EsoZone Portland and Ignite Portland)

What is an unconference?
An event with an agenda set on the fly by the participants. That isn’t to say there is no agenda and no schedule, only that it is created by the people who show up, when they show up, instead of by the conference organizers months in advance.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Esozone Portland 2009
The New Esozone
The Esozone virus is resilient. It mutates and evolves. Faced with a rapidly changing environment, Esozone has rewritten its own code.
No more admission fees, no more weekend passes, no more divide between speaker and spoken-to. The new Esozone is an unconference, an open environment with an agenda determined by its own participants.
Esozone Portland 2009 will be held on Friday night, October 9, and all day Saturday, October 10. It will bring together renegade philosophers, experimental magicians, visionary artists, outsider academics, street entrepreneurs, mad scientists, sexy satanists, conspiracy theorists, benevolent pranksters, fearless psychonauts and other shameless mutants for two days of discussions, demonstrations and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event.
Come for free, but be ready to share. Bring what you do and what you know. Bring who you are. This year, Esozone is all about you.
Coming soon: a FAQ, forums, and announcements about after parties and other events that weekend.
